Spanish Government provides support to to STAE in electoral activities

The Spanish Government through the Spanish Agency for International Cooperation and Development (AECID) held a ceremony on 01 October 2009 at Technical Secretariat for Electoral Administration (STAE), which is under the Ministry of State Administration and Territorial Management, regarding the support provided for the strengthening of the voter education activities taking place in preparation for 2009 Community (Suco) Leaders Elections in Timor-Leste.

AECID is supporting STAE with a contribution of a total of 40,000 EUR, to the ongoing nationwide voter education campaign for the coming community elections scheduled to take place on the 9th of October.

Present in the ceremony, Mr. Tomas Cabral, Director of STAE stated that this important support will contribute to enhance the level of awareness of the voters on the polling procedures and the dissemination of useful electoral information.

Mr. Francisco de Asis Lopez Sanz, Director of AECID stated that was a great pleasure and honour for AECID to be able to support the work of the electoral institutions in Timor Leste, and thus participate in the strengthening of the democratic process in the country.
